Inspiration from Abroad
The challenge of this space was to integrate the outdated breakfast room with the existing kitchen to develop one large narrow space. By opening up an existing fireplace to the kitchen and integrating a large island with seating, the homeowners were able to gain a more functional kitchen. Tall cabinetry was used to maximize storage space. Tiles from Turkey were integrated into the detailed backsplash and provided color inspiration for the rest of the kitchen.
Testimonials
Thank you for the update. I have to share with you, that the BRASWELL Company is great and thank you for your hard work. Linda, Minnie Howard School, August 2010
Hi Gretchen & Erin,
I apologize for taking so long to write this note as I’ve thought of it ever since I walked in on Friday evening – with the exception of my finishing the painting (once I choose a color) and Majestic’s finishing of the floor…the kitchen looks great!
Gretchen, thank you for your persistence throughout the project but especially in getting all of those last details on the punch list done - I really appreciate that. And, I’ve run the dishwasher a few times – all’s well with that too.
Erin, everyone that walks in just loves the countertop! Thank you for your guidance on that choice as well as the overall design – I think it’s the best use of the space.
Thank you again and best regards. Nancy, August 2010
"A few weeks ago we chatted about the BAR and your efforts to approve an addition to your house. I just received an e-mail from Tom Klotz asking for my permission to use our names as a reference . . . I thought I would cut out the middle man and tell you directly, that if you are working with Tom on this project then you are in great hands. I cannot imagine doing another project with any other person or construction company. They work very hard to do it right the first time but if, by chance, there is some problem then they deal with it quickly. Tom is extremely patient, easy to talk with and knows the quirks of Old Town houses. The Braswell work crews and sub-contractors always left the construction site in good order and were pleasant, professional people. Several years ago, Tom supervised our kitchen renovation. This was more than just cabinet replacement. New footers had to be poured, plumbing re-routed, floor joists adjusted, load bearing wall removed, etc. Basically the front half of the old house was remodeled. We have called him for some other smaller jobs since. If you have any other questions or would like to see the kitchen just let me know." Joyce (2010)
"You and your team member have done a really terrific job. Thank you very much! We will certainly be referring friends to Harry Braswell!" Heather (February 2010)
"A whole hearted thank you for your participate in the Make A Wish room that was completed last Saturday. We would not have been able to transform Jeb’s room without your generosity." Emily (January 2010)
"Our porch job is finished and beautifully done, as always. Art and I are indebted to you for replacing our front porch roof and making things perfect, in the fashion of the Braswell Company. I cannot tell you how much we have enjoyed our association with you over the years. We sing your praises to all we know. You are an extremely fine group of people." Janet and Art (November 2009)
"I am writing to let you know that we were delighted to work with your company and your project manager Mary Denby on this project. The professionalism of your entire team and the workmanship and care that was shown on this project was truly outstanding." Minh (July 2008)
"Special thanks for Jeff and all of your crew for taking the special care to make the house look great today for our visitor. It was noticed and appreciated – this is a direct reflection of you and your crew’s hard work. Thank you for helping to make the client look good and for helping to keep him happy and satisfied." Jen (June 2008)
"Harry, I expect you get a few complaints, this is the opposite. As you know your crews have virtually been living on my block for about a year. I want you to know what good neighbors they have been. First of all, I really liked the way your foreman introduced himself to all of us and asked us to let him know of any problems, the guys are always pleasant and cheerful in their greetings, and they have been great when I have asked for help – first with opening a can of paint for me, and today one of the electricians gave my car a jump start. I won't exactly say that I will miss them when the project is finished, but I want you to know that they have all been as accommodating as possible with tight parking etc, and speak very well for your firm." Jennifer (May 2008)
"Thanks Gretchen. It was good seeing you yesterday and we look forward to the completed project. It has been a pleasure working with everyone on this project." Barbie (March 2008)
"Dear Harry and Tom, We have such lovely memories of you and your crew, and are so incredibly pleased with the work you did for us that we are thinking of adding more rooms to our house just so we can have you back!" Janet and Art (2007)
"Mario and his partner as well as Mark the electrician are complete JOYS to work with. Competent and absolutely pleasant and nice to be around." Marsha and Carl (November 2007)
"Leo [the plumber] was terrific. Great job. Thank you VERY much for sending him." Megan (April 2007)
"We have been so pleased with the quality of Gretchen's work. She has been consistently professional, knowledgeable, organized, and accommodating throughout the project. I have heard Joe say more than once that he feels very comfortable knowing that she is managing the job, a compliment extended to only a handful of people in the last 30 years." Julie (March 2007)
“I have just completed a master bedroom-bath remodeling. Love the results. Quality of work excellent. Transparency on costs has been very good. Extremely good people to work with on a day to day basis. Very trustworthy.” Anne (September 2006)
“Gretchen, thank you for sending the folks over on Wednesday. You have been a godsend to this process.” Bridgette (October 2006)
“Now that the whole thing is done . . . I’m even more impressed not just by the quality of work, but by my many dealings with your staff. Brian and Dick were the lead carpenters at various times and they are both terrific – easy to deal with, patient, answering sometimes stupid questions and explaining basics, calm and highly skilled. But the real gem is Tom Klotz, who is the best person I’ve ever dealt with on any renovation – and we’ve done a bunch before this project. His above and beyond responsiveness, attention to detail, overall ability and unfailingly wise counsel is unrivaled. It goes without saying that we are thrilled with the project, but I especially wanted you to know how great your employees are – especially Tom – and how much I appreciated him, especially when things got dicey.” Sandy (July 2006)
“Whenever we have questions, concerns, or issues, Tom, Bill, and Carlos have always been able to answer those questions and work with us to ensure that our lives are disrupted as little as possible. These folks have been professional and friendly, always showing the confidence that years of experience bring to a professional . . . Thus far through the project we have seen that [your] reputation is well earned and clearly reflected in the individuals we are dealing with on a day to day basis. Additionally, whenever a problem arises, it is dealt with professionally and with as much haste as possible. In short, we are happy with the project and very happy with all of your staff, they are great to deal with.” Tom and Emily (December 2004)
“I can't begin to tell you all how much fun it is to work in my new kitchen! Many thanks to everyone for a terrific job.” Joyce (February 2005)
“We have really enjoyed working with you guys over the year.” Stephanie (February 2005)
“Harry, Just to let you know that once again you have a satisfied customer, your guys did a great job and my bathroom is now much more functional.” Jennifer (October 2004)
“Melanie and I wanted to write and thank you for all your patience and assistance. We were not really sure what we wanted at the beginning of the project, but you took the time to go through all the steps with us and ensure that we got something with which we are very happy.” Josh and Melanie (September 2004)
“Debby and I have fully appreciated all of the help you have given us throughout our renovation. As a result of your good natured attitude and your professional ability this project turned out to be fun and not the nightmare for which I had feared. Please thank your staff for a job well done.” Jim (October 2003)
“[We are sending] final payment along with the deepest admiration for the way you run your business and the fine people that represent you. The room is everything we could want, finished in the best of craftsmanship.” Joan
“We were very pleased with the quality of your company’s work and the professionalism of your staff.” Tim and Moira (October 2004)
“You went above and beyond and we very much love how it has turned out.” Joy and Deb (March 2004)
“The experience from start to finish was a positive one. The whole block commented on the efficiency and professionalism of the crew working here . . . It is not often in any business you see someone with such high standards for and dedication to their work. I love my house – it is everything I hoped for.” Deb (January 2006)
“We had 5 different builders bid on our plans. We used your very detailed bid as the basis for an ‘apples to apples’ comparison. As it turns out, several things were missing from the other builders’ bids, and by the time we called them and included things, the bids came to within $3000. Yes, they could have said they would do the project “at that original price,” but the quality of things used would not have been anywhere near what we have experienced. We decided in the long run that the $3000 difference was well worth the price for Tom’s extreme attention to detail that was evident then throughout the entire project. We went into the process very positive about what we would experience and were not let down one bit. In fact, now that the crew is out of there, we really miss seeing and working with all of them!” Charlie and Angie (January 2004)
